Superconductivity

Superconductivity occurs in certain materials where amongst others electrical resistance vanishes. Superconductors can facilitate transmission of unparallelled current densities, generation of extremely high magnetic fields. Superconductors also make extremely sensitive magnetic sensors. Superconductivity is successfully applied in healthcare (MRI scanners) and large-scale R&D facilities (CERN, ITER). It is making its introduction into industry, shipping and electric power supply.

IWO continues to work on the feasibility and application of superconductivity with academic and industry partners in various projects.
