IWO is an organisation of independent specialists who can help in specific situations and locations with the definition of the question, research into opportunities and techniques, feasibility study, etc. The two domains in which IWO is active:
- Technology – Sustainable energy in highly developed countries but also in developing countries
- Economy – Sustainable development especially in developing countries and especially in West Africa
In addition, IWO also provides training for policy makers, managers and technicians in the field of sustainable energy. IWO often works together with partners in projects.
IWO – Institute for Science and Sustainable Development – consists of two entities, which pursue the same goals:
- IWO Foundation was established in 1994 and
- IWO Project bv was established in 2007.
The IWO Foundation has been recognized by the Dutch Tax Collection Agency as a so-called General Benefits Aiming Foundation (Dutch: ANBI). The management of the Foundation IWO complies with the requirements of the Dutch Collection Agency. This means persons paying Dutch income tax or private companies can, within the boundaries set by the Dutch collection agency, deduct gifts to IWO from the income tax or profit.
IWO uses its resources for a sustainable and just society. It does this by mobilizing the necessary expertise through its networks and deploying it in partnerships. IWO often takes the initiating role for this. Knowledge-intensive sustainable development projects are started up through intensive partnerships. This can be both technical and economic-social.
IWO Project bv also has a social mission. Resources are mainly used for projects to make society more sustainable. This legal form has been chosen for participation in collaborative projects and for obtaining funds.
